The moon in the glass
Tableware
This project centers around an ancient Chinese tale that revolves around the notion of "drinking the moon" within a wine glass. In Chinese culture, the moon symbolizes longing for one's hometown. The phrase "moon in the wine glass" has become widely known, representing the poet's ability to envision and connect with their hometown through the reflection of the moon in their glass of wine. This narrative establishes a profound link between the wine glass and a sense of home.
Drawing inspiration from the concept of reflection in this story, its application expands beyond wine, wine glasses, and the moon. Various mirrors are utilized to introduce new narratives and evoke different stories. Mirrors, as everyday objects, possess the ability to create reflections and are laden with their own tales. For instance, they are believed to unveil an alternate world behind their reflective surfaces. The question arises: How can an ordinary everyday object, such as a mirror, be employed in a manner that grants additional significance and meaning to another everyday object, while still preserving its original function? The aim is to identify a specific context where mirrors can intertwine and harmonize with diverse everyday products.
