Time in wood

This collaborative project revolves around the design of a wristwatch in partnership with my close friend Weiye Lu. Unintentionally, we harnessed the inspirational functionality of design to its fullest potential. Initially, our intention was to merge wood and the concept of a timepiece, but we struggled to find a suitable approach. Serendipitously, I came across a Chinese traditional tale that revealed the transformative power of touch on wood. Regularly interacting with a piece of wood through touch and play would gradually refine its surface, rendering it smoother and imbued with a natural luster.

Inspired by this narrative, we envisioned crafting the watch case from wood, inviting users to engage with it daily. Over time, the wood would bear witness to the passage of time, evolving and acquiring a subtle shine. We firmly believe that this unique attribute epitomizes a distinct way of perceiving the passage of time.

Touch, being the fifth sense of human beings, holds a profound and multifaceted role in our daily lives. It possesses a magical and noble quality that transcends other senses. Through touch, we experience comfort, intimacy, kindness, gentleness, and thoughtfulness. It has the power to enlighten our minds and evoke deep emotions within us.
